04/08/2019

The issues discussed at the Congress included the challenges of autonomous and connected driving; improvements to information, management and payment systems in public transport; and the concept of mobility as a service.

ACCIONA was part of the working party of the Association of Traffic Engineers and Mobility Specialists dedicated to developing criteria for accepting and calibrating models in Spain.

ACCIONA took part in the 19th Spanish Congress of Smart Transport Systems, from 1 to 3 April in Madrid, organised by ITS España. The event examined issues such as the rapid evolution of cooperative systems, the move towards autonomous and connected driving, the growing use of big data, the continuous improvement in information, management and payment systems in public transport, the contribution of smart transport systems in smart cities, and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) initiatives.

Ulises Wensell, head of transport and demand studies at ACCIONA Concessions, took an active role in the working party of the Association of Traffic Engineers and Mobility Specialists dedicated to developing criteria for accepting and calibrating models in Spain.

Ulises Wensell discussed the principal needs of the sector in this working meeting held during one of the Congress sessions, which also involved the leading international transport modelling platforms (Aimsun and PTV Group), specialist consultants, and representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), among other administrative bodies.

The aim of this working group was to promote the dissemination of technical criteria among public sector clients and private companies such as consultants, not only related to the growing sophistication of the models and the incorporation of big data, but also highlighting the major disruptive challenges that need to be considered when evaluating projects, namely autonomous and connected vehicles and mobility as a service.
